- clipEdit 1.6
- by Wade Cosgrove
-
- Hola, boys and girls, and welcome to the clipEdit read me. Here you will find
- virtually nothing of interest but for the people who like to read the "read me"
- files that come with programs. I felt obligated to put one with my program.
-
- What is clipEdit?
- I'm glad you asked. ClipEdit is a small program that allows you to create, edit
- and export URL clippings. For you people who don't know what
- clippings are, simply select some text in this document and drag it to the desktop.
- The file created is a "text clipping."
-
- So why exactly is clipEdit useful?
- Another great question! The Mac OS does not allow the editing of any text
- or picture clipping after it has been made. This proves to be very annoying if
- you use clippings frequently. This is where clipEdit comes in.
-
- Creating text & picture clippings.
- Select a new document from the file menu. You may either select text or picture
- clipping from the sub menu. Then simply enter the text/picture you want in the
- clipping. Then select save from the file menu or push the save button. (It's the
- one with the disk on it.)
-
- Editing a previously made text clipping.
- This is a bit tricky, so read closely. The first way to open a clipping is to use
- the open menu. (Easy way.) The second way is to drag a text clipping onto the gray
- area above the text field in the text clipping window. (Fast way.) NOTE: this only
- works with text clippings and does not work with picture clippings. After you
- have made the desired changes, simply save the clipping like any other document.
-
- Exporting "URL clippings."
- If you are running Mac OS 8.5 or above, you may export text clippings as internet
- clippings. These are basically bookmarks that automatically launch your default helper
- application and connect it to the address in the clipping. For more information, look up
- "clipping" in the Mac OS help viewer. In order for the correct "Export" menu to become
- enabled, you must have an ADDRESS ONLY in the text area of the text clipping editor. Example:
- Type "http://www.macnn.com" in the text field. Now go to the "Export" menu and select
- the "Web Page Address." (This should be the only enabled menu because the address is not
- a valid address of any other type.) Then simply save the address to the desired location.
-
- Importing & Exporting Text
- This will allow the user to import text from say, a html file, and then save it as a text clipping.
- You may also go the other way around using the export as text option. This will allow the user to export
- any clipping to a text document. ClipEdit also allows the user to customize the application they would
- like the exported text document to be opened in. You may also specify file extensions like .txt and .html, for the
- ultimate in exporting goodness.
-
- Other features and stuff
- ClipEdit is fully drag & drop savvy. This means you can drag clippings to a window
- to open it (only works with text clippings) or get the contents from it by dragging a clipping to
- the edit field (the white area you type in). You may also drag a clipping onto the clipEdit icon
- to open the clipping within clipEdit (very handy). ClipEdit also supports balloon help for anyone who uses it.

- Shareware Charges & Info
- I think $5.00 (US) is more than fair for clipEdit. I have put in a lot of time and energy
- into the development of clipEdit and I think it is a great program. I hope you could acknowledge
- that by registering. I made clipEdit full featured even if you are not registered because I know
- how you can register shareware and then never use it again. However, if you use clipEdit regularly
- please register it. All registration is handled by Kagi. If you have any questions, please contact me
- at everyday@kagi.com. The easiest & preferred methods of registering are: 1) Run the Register
- program and send the generated file via email to sales@kagi.com or 2) Go to the web site
- and order online. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email within 72 hours.
- No matter which way you decide to register, please read the "register read me."

- address.
-
- Using the register program: Run the Register program & send email.
-
- Once you register, all future updates will be free...no matter what!
-
- Misc. Items
- You can't open picture clippings by dragging them onto the picture clipping window
- (like you can text clippings). Sorry, I'll work on it....clipEdit has to ship sometime. ;-)
-
- Second, ClipEdit will not let you save a picture clipping without a picture in it. This saves
- you the trouble of opening a picture clipping without any picture and getting an error message.
-
- For complete version history check out clipEdit's homepage at:
-
- So what's on tap for the next version of clipEdit?
- • The evil computer gnomes have been eradicated. (They may have returned, so be on the look out.)
- • A true "Undo" feature.
- • A better way to create URL clippings (more intuitive).
- • Add user requested features.
- • Complete rewrite for the fifth time....not gonna happen.
-
- Warranties & Guarantees
- Absolutely none. Just be happy this program works on my machine. =)
-
- Until next time, this has been a presentation of Everyday Software. Peace.
